Can we really live to 180? It’s a bold and brave statement—do we even want to?

It always seems impossible until it's done.

It’s become a full-time obsession for some people, particularly millionaires and billionaires. I ask the question: Do we lose the art of actually living when we are so consumed with our health and tracking everything we do? Are we really well as human ‘beings’ if we are constantly striving and hustling for health? There has to be a tipping point.

And with the world in its current state and the destruction of people and the planet, do we really want to witness more of this?

I most definitely don’t want to live to 180, but I would like to live a long, active, healthy life.

The conference explored all aspects of hacking our biology with the latest shiny new technologies for better health outcomes and longevity.

FOGO is real, so many people fear getting old but I am embracing it with concept of Pro-ageing by minimising cell damage and repairing what damage has been done through biohacking. 

Personalised health using AI is the future of longevity.

Three thousand people from all over the world gathered this week for the 10th annual Biohacking Conference in Dallas to find out how we can extend our biological age. There were people of all ages—kids, teenagers, people in their 70s and 80s, and everything in between. Small dogs were also allowed to check out the latest biohacking technologies, but only as voyeurs; no animals were harmed by any biohacking technologies 🙂

It was awesome people-watching. We had tech billionaires and millionaires who had sold their AI businesses, entrepreneurs, moms and daughters, couples, dads and daughters, and even some Burning Man peeps all dressed up in their robes. There were lots of out-there characters alongside regular people looking for solutions to improve their health. Surprisingly, there was a distinct lack of pumped-up gym junkies.

There were only three of us from Australia representing the Biohacking movement, which is starting to gain traction and curiosity. The lovely Azra from Biohackher based on the Gold Coast, Adam from Optimise Your Health, and myself, Biohackme. It was a long 17-hour flight to get there for four nights, and jet lag was a challenge, but it was most definitely worth it. I went to learn more about the science behind Biohacking, curious and open to all the new things it has to offer.

The Biohacking movement is booming in the US and has been for years, there has been biohacking conferences in London, Helsinki, Japan, Austin, Singapore just in last few months. The health industry generates $63 billion a year in the US, and Asia and Europe. We’re hoping to hold a Biohacking Summit in 2025 to bring more awareness and accessibility for Aussies.

Some key highlights were seeing the incredible Joe Dispenza on stage, getting up close and personal with Dr. Will Cole (total health fangirl crushing on him; he’s such a fountain of knowledge—watch this space, we’re hopefully bringing him to Australia next year), Peter Crone, Gabby Bernstein, Dr. Sara Gottfried, Dr. Amen (legend), and the list goes on.

We had some incredible doctors like Dr. Adeel Khan talking about the latest in stem cell therapy. He discussed the controversial editing of embryos that a doctor in China was jailed for. Gene therapy and engineering stem cells are fascinating and definitely the future of longevity, especially for people predisposed to certain illnesses through their genes. It’s currently only legal in Mexico, Thailand, Dubai, and Tokyo, which are leading the world in this field.

Biohacking your environment was a common thread that nearly every speaker mentioned, particularly mould and other toxins found in our homes. Dr. Jill Carnahan, who has presented in Australia, has been leading the world with her research into biotoxin illness. Air and water quality are key to longevity, and reducing exposure to chemicals and processed foods to embrace a low-tox lifestyle is crucial.

Being in nature, especially forest bathing, was also a common theme among many facilitators. It’s ironic, though, that we spent four days in the concrete jungle of downtown Dallas with no fresh air or sunlight. This was one of my biggest  challenges, as I’m so used to having access to these simple energy and life givers. Technology has its place, but nature trumps it all.

The danger of EMF exposure was also a recurring theme. So much research has been done and is currently being conducted in this space, though we get limited access to this due to the controversy surrounding it. The takeaway is that we just have to protect ourselves and minimise exposure, as it’s not going away—only getting more prevalent and stronger. Turning your Wi-Fi off at night and putting your phone on airplane mode are two easy ways to protect yourself.

What Did We Learn?

Yes, we can take gazillions of supplements daily (Dave literally does) and incorporate the latest Biohacking technologies, but there is much more to ageing well and increasing our health span. There are simple things we can do—Biohacking basics.

Saunas got a big wrap, with many speakers referring to infrared saunas for better detox pathways and health outcomes.

Mitochondria were a hot topic. We even took methylated blue on our tongues to help improve mitochondrial function, respiration, oxygen consumption, ATP production, and glucose consumption. I won’t be doing this again after three days of a blue tongue, gums, and blue wee — I no longer want to feel like a Smurf.

Oxytocin is what we need more of, and this is activated by some of these:

  • PLAY is key to longevity.
  • SEX is key to longevity.
  • Community and connection are key.
  • Gratitude for what we have and those around us.
  • Forgiveness — letting go.

The Foundations of Biohacking to Support Health Span Are:

  • Nutrition: We are what we eat, so be intentional about this—be a ‘qualitarian’.
  • Sleep: Deep REM sleep is key.
  • Movement: We have to move our bodies daily if we want to live longer.
  • Sauna: An important detox and health hack.
  • Breathwork: Getting out of fight-or-flight is necessary for longevity; activate that vagus nerve.
  • Ice Therapy: Incredible benefits, especially for mental health.
  • Hydration: Staying hydrated is crucial—add Celtic sea salt for a hydration hack.
  • Nature: We need it; it’s our life force.
  • Supplementation: Personalised—Viome does this well by curating vitamins based on deficiencies. This can be controversial, as some claim we can get everything from our food, but unless you’re eating local organic food, you probably aren’t getting all you need due to heavy spraying and depleted soils.
  • Biofeedback Testing and Devices: Getting tested to see what the body needs is essential, but I’m torn about wearables. Being an advocate for lowering our exposure to EMFs, is it really a good idea to have them strapped to us all the time? I think using them for short periods to track sleep, glucose, HRV, etc., is worth it but not necessarily ongoing.
  • CGMs: Understanding what foods impact our insulin spikes is also important in personalising nutrition.

Some Things We Tried:

  • Hyperbaric Chambers: I tried this for the first time, and it was an interesting and slightly confronting experience—benefits are numerous.
  • IV Drips: This stand was constantly busy with people getting Glutathione, Lysine, and Vitamin C infusions.
  • Shock Wave Therapy: This was one of the newest stands in the tech hall, with the latest machine used to treat pain, inflammation, and injuries. It was incredible, with people reporting no pain after one treatment following years of suffering. Dave Asprey launched this method in partnership with Adam from Optimise Your Health.
  • Cryotherapy: Love a bit of Cryo to reduce inflammation.
  • Sauna: I tried far-red sauna lights, which were different.
  • Red Light Therapy: Reduces inflammation and promotes healing.
  • Biohacker Glasses: Omit blue light and help with sleep.
  • Oxygen Therapy: I actually felt a benefit from this.
  • Brain Tap: Helps with focus and reduces stress and anxiety.

Ultimately, while biohacking can support health span, the right mindset is essential for true longevity. Without it, living to 180—or even 100— remains out of reach.
